A TRIAL DATE SETS FOR A NIGERIAN MAN CHARGE IN KILLING HER DAUGHTER IN CANADA

A trial date has been set for this fall for a man Nigerian man, Oluwatosin Oluwafemi , arrested in Ontario and charged in the 2014 death of his four-year-old daughter in Alberta, Canada.

The court was originally told the earliest date would be Mar. 26, 2018. Justice Earl Wilson of Court of Queen’s Bench insisted such a delay would be unacceptable.
"There’s no way we’re going to be putting this trial off for another year," Wilson said Friday. Last summer the Supreme Court of Canada handed down a decision that set new rules to ensure accused persons get a trial within a reasonable time. "This man is presumed innocent until proven otherwise."

Officers were called to a home in Calgary on Dec. 19, 2014, and found the preschool girl in cardiac arrest and not breathing. Olive Rebekah Oluwafemi was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Investigators said her injuries appeared to have been inflicted inside her home and were not the result of an accident.

"The cause of death was blunt force injuries," Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm said. "We believe there were injuries…upwards of weeks prior to the incident."
Olive’s death was deemed a homicide in January, 2015. Chisholm said the family of three had been living in Calgary for approximately two years prior to the death of Olive, but had left just weeks after her death.

Chisholm said her father was a suspect from the beginning of the investigation, but it took a long time to lay charges because medical evidence in child and infant deaths takes extra long to come back.
"At the time, investigators believed the injuries that caused her death were inflicted within the family home, and were not the result of play, an accident such as falling down stairs, nor medical intervention consistent with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)," police had said in a release. Chisholm said police were initially told Olive fell down stairs in the family home.

Oluwafemi is originally from Nigeria and was working as a graduate engineer in the oil industry in Calgary. He moved to Keswick, Ont., to be near his family. He has been in custody since his arrest.

REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD IN THE PAST 24 HOURS !

The emerging trends of events in The Redeemed Christian Church of God in the past 24 hours, is beginning to give cause for serious concern. Very recently, elections were held in The Gambia and the opposition was declared the winner. The incumbent President called to congratulate the winner and conceded defeat. But before the President-elect could be sworn in, President Jamel recanted and has now thrown the West African nation into crisis.

On Saturday, January 7, 2017, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, told all ministers gathered at the Annual Ministers Conference, that the Church now has a new General Overseer, but before the end of the day, information emerged that Pastor Adeboye had only stepped down as General Overseer for Nigeria and would still continue to function as General Overseer of RCCG Worldwide.

When it was pointed out that the Constitution of RCCG does not recognize that title, then we were informed that Pastor Adeboye will now be known as Global Missioner and Spiritual Leader of the Church. When the illegality of that title was revealed, then we have now been told that Pastor Adeboye will now retain his title as General Overseer, while Pastor Obayemi is National Overseer.

I have taken the pains to check the Constitution of the church and I can see signs of some confusion brewing, if not carefully handled.

In all my time that I've known Pastor Adeboye, integrity has been his watchword and the trends emerging from the inconsistent pronouncements from the church since yesterday, do not support the personality of our dear Daddy GO, and he himself has to act quickly to douse the tension being generated.

From a church of just about 40 parishes in 1981 when Pastor Adeboye took over as General Overseer, the RCCG is now present in about 192 countries all over the world. RCCG has become one of the most influential churches worldwide and we cannot afford to give the impression that Daddy GO is unwilling to retire or hand over to somebody else. That is certainly not the Pastor Adeboye that we all know.

In his succession plan, Pastor Adeboye has done what no pastor has done before and he should follow it through and mentor the people that God has led him to chose as his successors.

We his followers are pained with the development but as things are now, there is little we can do about it.

The Codes of the Financial Reporting Council are not new. They were implemented seamlessly for Banks when their Managing Directors who had been in office for ten years were asked to hand over. This has now been extended to non-profit organizations like churches and there is nothing strange about this.

These codes were contested at the Federal High Court and the court decided against us. They are meant to achieve transparency in these organizations.
I therefore humbly appeal to Daddy GO to follow through his plan and avoid the temptations of The Gambia.

NEW BOOK :WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ~~BY ISLAMMIYAH SAUDIQUE

Islammiyah Saudique-Kadejo a Nigerian born top blogger (Pearl Magazine Blog) based in Ireland. Apart from being a writer and a journalist , she ran an advocacy talk show on Facebook called Domestic Violence Talk (#DVTalk), to support, enlighten and lead women out of domestic violence.

In her new book that was just  released  titled ‘Wedding Anniversary: Love Doesn’t Have to Hurt, she said: ‘Wedding Anniversary’ addresses the issue prevalent across the world, irrespective of race and colour; and that is domestic violence. Wedding Anniversary is a play most women and girls worldwide can relate to. It is an interesting story of love and hate. It tells our story as women; the cross-cultural story of many women told with facts and humour, coupled with the struggles, challenges, triumphs and intrigues women go through in their daily lives. This compelling story reveals in a well-nuanced manner that love doesn’t have to hurt.

The rate at which women are murdered in their own homes by men who should love and protect them is appalling. This year alone I did stories on about ten wives killed by their husbands. Seven in Nigeria, three in USA. So I think there is need for more advocacy for women to identify abuse and seek help before it’s too late.

Musediq Abdul, Journalist, anchor Impact Africa (VOA),  in his review after reading 'Wedding Anniversary' wrote:
“Got the kindle edition of Wedding Anniversary and read it in 1hours, 25min - because I couldn't put it down, and I wanted to do justice to it ASAP.
It is a beautiful narrative, however, the tragic ending leaves reader like me with an open ended question - could it have ended differently? In a reasonably unpunished way for the victim (Teemah)?
Perhaps "Feminist Prison" could possibly follows as the next book in continuation of the chronicle of Teemah. Then "A Widow's Destiny" can bring the happy ending show casing life after prison.
Donald, Bella, Pastor & funeral director provided an excellent side kick, and the much needed laugh to diffuse the main tragedy of the story.  I'm proud of you sister.”

Fawsiyyah Emiabata, a Writer, Guidance counsellor and Childcare expert, in her review after reading 'Wedding Anniversary'  also wrote:
'Wedding Anniversary is well written and readable. Particularly, I love its simplicity and the author's choice of words.

I totally enjoyed the book and believe me, I read it all in a sitting. I could not drop it for a second. It was that interesting.

While Islammiyah drives home the message on Domestic Violence as a whole, I also find in the book different other messages or lessons as portrayed by other characters in the play.

The story of Teemah and her sweetheart Prince and the events that led to the hearts becoming sour is what we can all relate to. How do we handle matters? When do we seek help or do we keep patching things up? If it is really love, does it have to hurt?

Though it is tragic, however, the comic relief she incorporated got me seriously cracking. It's so hilarious but seriously, a lot of messages were passed on to the readers.
Islammiyah through the characters in her book, has clearly answered a lot of questions that might have been on the minds of readers prior to picking up the book.

"The taste of the pudding is in its eating". This is a MUST Read and I highly recommend for all Young Adults and Adults.'

Islammiyah is a go getter that makes things happened you can judge that from her quotation  ''I want to always wake up with determination, go to bed with satisfaction and hold it together when everyone would understand if I fell apart.''

Furthermore, i would like to say that all those involved in marriage things must aware of the pressure on them and should be able to make a right decision , no matter what is at stake.

What can we say than to wish her well in her endaviours.
